Overview
COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Highland Lodge is a lakeside retreat in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom—part cozy inn, part lively local hub. Set on 100+ acres along Lake Caspian, we blend thoughtful hospitality with a strong sense of place: a buzzing bar (with a permanent pour from Hill Farmstead Brewery), a farm-driven kitchen (proudly holding Vermont Fresh Network Gold Barn status), and a calendar that leans fun—Margarita Mondays, taco trucks, long summer nights.
We’re also a full-service wedding venue, hosting immersive weekend celebrations with on-site lodging, tailored catering, and seamless event execution across our indoor and outdoor spaces. Guests come for the cabins, trails, and lake swims; they come back for the energy—unfussy, community-driven, and quietly magical.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Set on Lake Caspian in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, Highland Lodge is a seasonal property with 10 rooms in the main lodge and 10 cabins across the hillside. Summer is our push—weddings most weekends, busy dinner service, and full breakfast daily for house guests. It’s a tight crew, high-volume at times, but grounded—no pretense, just good food and people who show up.

We’re looking for a seasoned kitchen hand to jump into a busy, farm-driven kitchen for the season—someone who knows their way around a line, keeps things tight, and actually enjoys the rhythm of a full house. You’ve got at least 4 years in kitchens, move with purpose, and don’t need hand-holding.

You’ll support daily service (prep, line, breakdown), help maintain a clean and organized kitchen, and step in where needed—whether that’s dialing in prep lists or jumping on sauté mid-push. Responsibilities also include receiving and inventorying orders, properly storing product, tracking product levels, and helping minimize waste. A strong eye for plating and consistency is key.

This role has room to stretch—we’re into creative menu input and collaboration. For those with experience in kitchen management, menu costing, or leading a team, there’s opportunity to take on more responsibility and grow into a lead role.

Compensation depends on experience. Housing may be available for the right fit. Start ASAP. Fast-paced, good crew, high standards, zero fluff.

COMPENSATION
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $24.00 - $28.00

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Email: stay@highlandlodge.com

Shoot us an email with a bit about yourself, your background in food & beverage, and any leadership experience if applicable. Let us know why you’re interested in working with us, your earliest possible start date, and your general availability from May 15 through October 31. We'll circle back to set up an interview from there. Restaurant opens for the season mid May.

This position could extend to year round for the right candidate. Or create a seasonal opportunity for guaranteed Summer work if the individual has winter opportunities elsewhere.
Employee Experience
A fun and fast paced atmosphere and we have all types of jobs available. While we do hire for specific positions, we are a team oriented business so helping out in areas outside of your normal day to day is often expected. We have positions that are primarily outside, landscaping, repairs and maintenance, beach duties, etc. we also have positions more focused inside- from answering phones in reception and making reservations, to helping in the kitchen as a sous chef or dishwasher or if you are a morning person, running breakfast and baking first thing in the morning with the fresh smell of coffee. Our prime season is Memorial Day to Indigenous Peoples Day so our core staff remains on outside of those months when we start buckling the Summer cabins up for the Winter. Because of our peak season calendars, employees should be prepared for July and August blackout months in terms of vacation days unless previously agreed upon at time of employment. Our staff are expected to be self motivated and responsible as we all have a part to play in the day to day here, helping guests with whatever their needs may be and preparing for busy dinner and bar service requires self starters who need little direct oversight.
