Join Camp Chief Ouray, part of YMCA of the Rockies, as the Target Sports Director—a senior program leader responsible for delivering safe, engaging, and mission-driven target sports programming. This role oversees archery, riflery, and related target sports, ensuring the highest standards of instruction, safety, and camper experience.

What You’ll Do
Lead the safe and effective operation of all target sports programming, including archery, riflery, and specialty activities
Ensure full compliance with Colorado Child Care Licensing, American Camp Association, and USA Archery standards
Recruit, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate target sports staff to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction
Develop and implement lesson plans that promote skill development, confidence, and sportsmanship
Conduct regular staff skill assessments and provide ongoing coaching and mid-summer performance feedback
Oversee equipment procurement, inventory, inspection, maintenance, and replacement
Establish and enforce standardized operating procedures for all target sports areas
Maintain clean, organized, and safe ranges and activity spaces
Collaborate with program leadership and other departments to support smooth daily operations and integrated camper experiences
Provide exceptional customer service through clear communication, professionalism, and leadership presence
Assume one weekend of camp leadership responsibilities during the summer
Who You Are
At least 21 years of age
USA Archery Level 1 certification (or higher) through an accredited organization
Minimum of 16 documented hours of riflery instruction or NRA Instructor Certification
Meets Colorado Child Care Licensing experience requirements
Previous experience working with youth, preferably in a summer camp setting
Strong organizational, leadership, and time-management skills
CPR/First Aid certified—or willing to obtain certification
Calm, professional, and detail-oriented with a strong safety mindset
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Preferred Qualifications
Ability and willingness to meet YMCA and DOT requirements to operate YMCA vehicles, including 15-passenger minibuses
Valid U.S. driver’s license (CDL if required) with a satisfactory driving record
Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card and complete YMCA driver training
Work Environment
Dynamic outdoor camp setting with indoor and outdoor responsibilities
Work in all weather conditions and hike on rugged terrain
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and work in physically active environments
