With the season about half over, we've all devolved into our winter versions of ourselves. Whether its your first season in the ski industry, or the 25th. Certain things about this lifestyle never change. Here are some sure-fire ways to tell if you are now, or have ever been a ski bum.
- You have 4 or more roommates, in a super small space. At least one of them sleeps in the common room.
- You have worn your work jacket on a break or off day in order to skip the lift lines on a busy day.
- You have ever said to your friends or coworkers that "Conditions just arent right today" as an excuse that you're just far too hungover to ski that day.
- You have never got on a ski lift without at least some form of Alcohol or Marijuana in your pocket.
- Barbecuing in the parking lot is a frequent occurrence.
- You have knocked the wind out of yourself while trying to hit a rail.
- Whenever the lift slows down, you let out a sigh, grunt, a "come on!" or some other audible indication of displeasure.
- You have been the primary reason for a chair slowing down, making everyone else slightly displeased at you.
- You have ever seriously considered, or even attempted to sneak on a lift, or sneak someone else on a lift. I mean, come on they aren't checking anyway!
- You haven't had a steady relationship in years. You barely care.
- You know what "Gaper Day" is.
- You laugh at people that don't know whats going on during "Gaper Day"
- You openly hate Vail Resorts.
- You've worked for Vail Resorts.
- You still bought a Vail Resorts Pass.
- You watch The X Games, Olympics, and Dew Tour religiously but complain that the riders are "Uncreative" and "Just hucking and praying" when you yourself could never triple cork.
- You know the bartender.
- You are the bartender.
- You've complained about how you will never ride on a weekend, then watched the webcams and saw that it wasn't that bad, but still didn't go. And you never will.
- You swear you'll get into Backcountry next season, you don't.
- You ride into the trees to pee.
- While you ride into the trees to pee, you find soft snow and say out loud. "Why the hell is this still here? Who rides here?"
- As a single rider, you make conscious or unconscious decisions to ride with people that look cool in order to make new riding friends. They are cool, you want to be friends. You say "Have a good one!" at the top and never see them again.
