PROFESSIONAL OUTDOOR GUIDES AND ADVENTURE EXPERTS
A leader in the whitewater rafting and adventure travel industry since 1969, OARS is a second generation family-owned outfitter that seeks to match the best staff with our first-class rafting, hiking, and multi-sport guided adventures. OARS guides and employees deeply respect and care for the wonderful places we visit. As stewards of more than 35 rivers and shorelines, our goal isn’t simply to be one of the most environmentally responsible tour operators in the world, but to continually raise the bar and challenge other companies to raise their standards as well. While our responsible travel policies and operator standards are a constant work in progress, our commitment to socially and environmentally-conscious travel has been a part of our foundation since the company’s inception in 1969. We respect the natural environment, and to ensure minimal impact, we use responsible leadership and maintain small groups. We follow expertly designed on-the-ground practices. Our trips emphasize heightened attentiveness to human impact on the environment and we work with local communities, businesses and individuals to develop sustainable tourism opportunities that help local economies while minimizing negative environmental and cultural impacts.

In the 50 plus years OARS has been in business, the real magic happens because of the extraordinary guides. OARS is proud to have earned the reputation for having the most-experienced, professional and customer-focused crews on the water. Not to mention, fun and family-oriented. Our guides are committed to making sure guests are having the trip of a lifetime. We operate 100% of our trips in the U.S. using guides trained and employed by OARS at regional outposts throughout the West. OARS believes it is a fundamental part of eco-tourism to work with local guides, while at the same time bringing our wealth of experience to the table. OARS guides have said they feel like the luckiest people on Earth. They not only get to “live” in some of the most beautiful places on this planet, even better, they get to expose and interpret the secrets of these fantastic rivers to OARS’ clients.
Our guides earn competitive wages and OARS sponsors the cost of training for swift-water rescue, Wilderness First Responder courses, Leave No Trace and on-river seminars in regional geology, history and flora & fauna. In many areas, we offer no-cost employee housing for guides and we have a travel fund to encourage guides to experience trips in other areas. Further, because we genuinely care about our employees, returning employees are offered healthcare cost reimbursement and a 401(k) retirement package with a company match. And because we like our employees looking sharp, we work with partner companies to supply our staff with a complimentary gear package every spring.
Professional guides who set the gold standard in whitewater rafting safety with unparalleled experience.
